Okinawa City Municipal Museum
A variety of Okinawa City’s historical items exhibited
Okinawa City’s historical museum is located on the 3F of the Culture Center, the brown building next to Mutsumigaoka Park which also includes a library and a performing arts hall. The museum is separated into 2 rooms. Room 1 exhibits historical and cultural items where you can admire midden from the archaic period or learn about folk performing arts that have weathered the post-war era and are presently celebrated as cultural events. Room 2 exhibits the city’s topography, geology and fossils, including insects that live in the hills and fields, and other creatures that inhabit local waters.
Special exhibitions of traditional crafts and sites representative of Okinawa City, such as their Chibana Hanaori textiles and “Goeku Gusuku” castle ruins, are also held.
